Message from the President

Dear Members,

Hello again, and let’s welcome the long awaited summer. It’s been a busy six months for me as the President of this great association, but I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything. I have met some truly wonderful people and have attended many outstanding functions. I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to the next few years.

Our Installation Dinner Dance on March 19th was a great success. Many friends and organizations attended to help us honor retired Detective Tony Senft and Frank Bolz Jr. Thanks for to all who made it out that night and also to the people who supported the association by placing an ad in our journal.

Our Annual Scholarship Exams for College and High School were held and the results are in! Help us celebrate with the six award recipients and our scholarship sponsors at our Family/Scholarship Night on June 21st at the Varuna Boat Club. Food (outdoor BBQ), beverages, and Department units will be there for the whole family to enjoy. Bring family and friends. All are invited.

Once again Artie Hall and Rob Guendel are running the Annual Golf Outing, but did you know the date has changed? It was moved back to Monday, June 28th, so all you guys sitting on the fence have some extra time to make your reservation and get yourselves there for a party you won’t soon forget. If you have attended in the past, you know this is absolutely the one golf outing you can’t miss. The price is $175 per person and the location and arrangements are all the same as last year. See you there!

Being that summer is here, the next time we will see you after Family Day or the Golf Outing is in the fall. Be sure to make the Pre Parade meeting on September 13th at the Knights of Columbus Hall. That’s right; the Parade was moved to Saturday, September 25th so plan accordingly. Also, our famous Oktoberfest has been moved back to Saturday, October 9th. At least we have a little extra time to prepare for two of the best parties in town.

For those of you who could not make it, the Association met with 20 or so Police Executives of various ranks visiting from Germany at the Bohemian Beer Garden in Astoria in April. We traded many stories, had some good food, and drank some great beer. More importantly we made some new friends.

These are just a few of the great events the association is involved with. Please spread the word, get people involved, and get people to pay their dues. We can all enjoy the many benefits our association has to offer but we need your support.

Complete details for all our upcoming events can be found on our website NYPDSTEUBEN.ORG. or now on “Facebook." Sign up to get our event invites. Please feel free to contact me or any of my tireless Board members if you have any questions or issues.

Fraternally yours,

Jason Schleyer
